It’s official – Apple has announced the top apps for both the iPhone and the iPad for 2010. If you’re looking for Christmas gift ideas, you won’t go far wrong with this list – unless the person already has these apps!
The list is split into several categories including the top ten paid and free apps for the iPhone and iPad as well as the top ten grossing apps for both devices. Not surprisingly, game apps are some of the most popular in all three categories for both devices. Chillingo’s Angry Birds, for example, made it into all the lists except for the best free iPad apps. PopCap’s Plants vs. Zombies also made it into several of the lists. Old favorites like Tetris also made the list of top ten grossing iPhone apps.
Surprisingly, the list of top ten free apps for the iPad doesn’t feature many games. Instead, people seem to be using the device for other entertainment purposes like reading books (iBooks), listening to the radio (Pandora Radio) or watching movies (Netflix , Movies by Flixster – with Rotten Tomatoes, or IMDb Movies & TV). However, the top ten grossing apps for the iPad do include several games like Angry Birds, Plants vs. Zombies HD and Real Racing.
iPad users are taking advantage of the many powerful apps to turn their device into a work-compatible tool. Pages (word processor), Numbers (spreadsheet) and Keynote (presentation tool), and Documents To Go Premium – Office Suite all made it to the top ten grossing iPad apps for 2010.
