BlackBerry Bold 9930
the BlackBerry Bold 9930 is a solid smartphone, but it won’t win anyone over to the RIM side of things. while the BlackBerry faithful will absolutely love it, and it will probably be the best smartphone they have ever used, those who have already left BlackBerry for the greener pastures of Android or the iPhone, or those in the market for their first smartphone, will likely pass right over the Bold 9930 thanks to its clumsy OS and extravagant price tag. As of the time of this review, Verizon Wireless is asking $249.99 with a new two-year contract for the 9930, which makes it more expensive than many other high-end smartphones.
It is a shame that the 9930 is held back by its archaic OS, too, because it has great industrial design, a fantastic hardware keyboard, and solid battery life. If it were running a current version of Android, or even RIM’s upcoming QNX-based platform that promises to be more like the BlackBerry Tablet OS, it would be much more appealing. but, for now, and coming from the perspective of an average consumer, the BlackBerry Bold 9930 is a pass.
