Fresh off Tuesday’s market-moving rumors that Sprint will get the iPhone 5, a Wednesday blog report said that T-Mobile will also offer the next-generation iPhone.
MacTrast quotes an anonymous “informant” at T-Mobile saying the next-generation iPhone will operate on T-Mobile’s 3G network and could hit stores in early- to mid-October.
“We expect the addition of the iPhone, and the iPhone 5’s ability to run on our 3G network to make a significant financial difference for T-Mobile,” MacTrast’s alleged source said.
T-Mobile wasn’t available to comment at the time.
Rumors about both Sprint and T-Mobile getting the next iPhone have been circulating all year long, and came to a groundswell in March when iPhone veteran AT&T announced plans to acquire T-Mobile for $39 billion. but at the time, in an FAQ about the merger, T-Mobile completely avoided the yes-or-no question of whether or not it was getting the iPhone:
Q: Is T-Mobile USA getting the iPhone? A: T-Mobile USA remains an independent company, as the acquisition is expected to be completed in approximately 12 months. We’ll continue to offer cutting-edge 4G devices like the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, as well as the new Sidekick 4G, the T-Mobile G2x and the G-Slate tablet coming later this spring.”
T-Mobile, America’s fourth-largest carrier, currently boasts the exclusive title of supporting the most unlocked iPhones which is reportedly more than one million.
