Fast Unlock iPhone Team has released FastRa1n its untethered jailbreak and unlock iPhone 4 and 3Gs 4.3.5/4.3.4/4.3.3 for devices running iOS 5, as demonstrated earlier this week. The unlock– which allows unofficial software to be run on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch when running the new version of iOS – uses the original fastra1n bootrom exploit; still, the fast Unlock iPhone reckons this particular release is for everyone.

To Jailbreak and Unlock Your iPhone Visit The Official Website FastUnlockiPhone.com

It is a big news for Windows and Mac users. FastRa1n is now available to download. If you are following the updates, you must know that this version only supports iPhone 4 3Gs and iPod Touch 2G that have been updated to iOS 4.3.5.

The FastUnlockiPhone.com Team always releases a new update to FastRa1n whenever Apple seeds a new beta of iOS 5 firmware. In the past, we have seen fast Unlock make a release announcement with in 2-3 hours. this time, a whole day has passed and many are wondering as to why hasn’t even mentioned iOS 5 beta 5 in any of his tweets yet and to jailbreak and unlock iphone 4/3Gs 4.3.5/4.3.4/4.3.3. it is a known practice that he warns jailbreakers about updating to latest firmware, this time we saw none of that as well.

FastRa1n is easier and faster method to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 4/3Gs 4.3.5/4.3.4/4.3.3 or any iOS device, while FastSn0w allows users to preserve their baseband, which is useful for users who want to unlock their iPhone.

If you already jailbroke iOS 5b3 with the prior version of FastRa1n, you can just use this updated version to perform a tethered boot which resolves the problem. otherwise, if you are new to jailbreaking iOS 5 beta 3, then just point this new version of FastRa1n at the latest 5.0b3 IPSW file.

It also threatens to irretrievably upgrade your baseband, which isn’t good news if you’ve been trying to preserve a baseband that’s unlockable. You’ll need a registered UDID – which you’ll have to have an Apple developer account to get – in order to use the jailbreak too.

iPhone rumors: What to expect this October

Creative thinkers at French website nowhereelse.fr took an educated guess at what the next iPhone might look like, based on rumors and industry analysis. this image is not of Apple’s iPhone 5 — but the real one may end up looking a lot like this.

By Wilson Rothman

With all of the iPhone rumors out there, kernels of truth abound. Let’s break down each bit — from launch date to possible new carriers and prices, to phone specs — and see what will probably happen, and what we can safely dismiss.

If you don’t have time for the play-by-play, here’s the best guesstimate of what’s to come:

A new iPhone will ship in October, available on AT&T and Verizon — and probably Sprint and T-Mobile, too. it may have a larger screen, but the screen’s resolution will be the same. There’s a chance it will be called the iPhone 4S, but it could just as easily be the iPhone 5.

Chances of the iPhone running on Verizon or Sprint’s 4G network are slim, but it probably will see improved speeds in certain T-Mobile and AT&T markets, even if Apple doesn’t go so far as to call it a “4G” phone.

Last, as usual, there will be a cheaper alternative, this year likely to be a specially made iPhone 4 with just 8GB of storage.

OK, so if you’re still reading, you want more nitty gritty, or some reasoning behind why I didn’t mention certain rumors. Partly, it’s Keyser Soze’s Law: “A rumor’s not a rumor that doesn’t die.” from experience with Apple, I can tell you that the most persistent of rumors, even the absurd ones, turn out to be true. some of it is industry awareness: if the screen or network technology isn’t ready, it’s probably not gonna be in the iPhone.

So, for some applied soothsaying, let’s go item by item:

iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S? this naming thing is a bit tricky, but it seems like 4S is a strong contender. Generally, people view this as the difference between a fully new phone and a significant but undramatic update to the current phone. The 4S would make sense, since it would match the 3G-3GS name plan. on the flipside, it sends a signal to buyers that there’s something bigger coming later, and Apple hates doing that.

Sprint? T-Mobile? Talk about rumors that don’t die. There are lots of credible items about the coming availability of an iPhone on Sprint and — though Apple may not want to launch on a carrier that’s in the middle of a takeover — T-Mobile as well. There are no technical barriers to this happening now, so it’s just a matter of business. I believe it’s time, especially now that Apple is the underdog in the battle against Google’s Android.

Thinner body? again, a moderate jump, like 3G to 3GS, requires no new design. so even if there’s a brand new processor, camera, network chipset — all very likely — the current iPhone 4 body could remain. But according to a piece last month in the Wall Street Journal, the next iPhone is not only “thinner and lighter,” but more challenging to mass-produce because of its size. But because the sources cited were component suppliers, it’s more of a 50/50 shot.

If it is thinner, it may look like the concept rendering shown in the embedded nowhereelse.fr YouTube video.

As for the other issues raised in the video, not to mention stuff that didn’t come up, keep reading.

Bigger screen? Another argument for a slightly modified body is the alleged 4-inch screen that the new iPhone will have. in short, if the screen gets bigger, the body design has to change to fit it. it may be subtle, an enlarging of the screen by reducing the bezel, but it will change the form.

Better resolution? as likely as a larger screen is, there’s probably not going to be a proportional increase in screen resolution. The current iPhone’s 3.5-inch screen has a resolution of 960×640. Even if it increases to 4 inches, the screen resolution is still much tighter than other industry-leading smartphones, such as the HTC Evo 3D, which has a 960×540 screen that’s even larger, at 4.3 inches.

Curved screen? some have speculated that there would be one, possibly like the one on Google’s Samsung-built Nexus S. if it’s anything like that, the curvature will be almost imperceptible, so don’t get all excited either way.

8-megapixel camera? yes. Not only are there lots of rumors about this, there’s basically no reason for it not to happen, and would keep Apple at the top of the phone-camera game.

Faster processor? The iPhone 4 has Apple’s A4 single-core processor. it is all but inevitable that the next iPhone will have the A5 dual-core processor, currently found in the iPad 2. it would speed things up, though most activities wouldn’t be noticeably smoother.

Near-field communication e-wallet? though “NFC,” technology that would let you pay for stuff by holding your phone over a sensor, is a little far out, Apple has a vested interest in leading the, um, charge with mobile payments. iTunes is already a successful payment system, which is more than Google can say, and Google already has NFC in its flagship Nexus S phone.

4G, fake 4G or no 4G? so, quick crash course: Verizon and Sprint have technologies labeled 4G that are built on top of their 3G phone network. in both cases, the 4G networks are substantially faster, but coverage can be spotty. for T-Mobile and AT&T, the so-called “4G” that’s out there now can be fast, but it’s still technologically an upgrade to their 3G network.

The likeliest scenario is that the next iPhone will not have Verizon- or Sprint-flavored 4G, but — assuming the iPhone is even on T-Mobile — it will be able to access the speedier T-Mobile and AT&T networks where possible. I doubt Apple will call the phone 4G-capable, though, due to all the confusion.

Dual-mode? World phone? Avoiding under-the-hood talk, let me say this: It’s highly likely that the AT&T and Verizon iPhones will have the same cellular networking chips, probably from Qualcomm. it makes sense from a design and production point of view, and grants the Verizon (and, if available, Sprint) iPhone the chance to run on networks in Europe and Asia that currently only the AT&T phone can.

Budget iPhone? There’s long been talk of a “Nano” iPhone with less memory and a lower price tag, but the phone that always appeared in that slot was last year’s model. Now, it seems, Apple will build a special version of the iPhone 4 with a previously unavailable 8GB of storage, and this new/old model would sell for $99. I’m convinced of this.

“Cloud” phone? The cheap-phone rumor that’s harder to swallow is that there will be a “cloud iPhone” that has almost no internal storage, and runs everything out of the cloud. I dismiss this for two reasons: first, the cost alone of a constantly connected media-streaming phone would trump any up-front savings, and second, the whole point of Apple’s iCloud initiative is that all iPhones are cloud iPhones, so to single out only the cheapest model just makes no sense.

Surge of New Software for the iPhone

Mark Cain felt like a rock star. the chief technology officer of medical imaging software company MIMvista got that sensation as he stepped onto the stage at Apple’s (AAPL) Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9 to demonstrate a new program that delivers medical scans to an iPhone. Suddenly he was in front of an auditorium packed with thousands of Apple faithful, reporters, and bloggers, all eager for news of the latest iteration of Apple’s music-playing cell phone and the software applications designed to run on it. "We went from thousands of people knowing about our company to millions, in just a moment," he says.

MIMvista’s application is just one of the 4,000 applications being developed specifically to run on the iPhone (BusinessWeek.com, 6/9/08). These are part of a wave of so-called native applications, meaning they’re designed to run directly on the phone, as opposed to being downloaded onto the phone from a Web browser. the first of these programs becomes available by mid-July, around the time the new iPhone 3G hits store shelves.

Native applications take full advantage of the new device’s improved computational power, including its navigational features and ability to run on a more advanced wireless network. "[Both] Web-based and native applications have a place," says Erica Sadun of the Unofficial Apple Weblog. yet, "native applications access location, and do a lot of things using the onboard sensors."

Apple has packed plenty into the new gadget. like the first version of the iPhone, this one boasts a 2-megapixel camera, a snazzy touchscreen, and an accelerometer that helps it respond to motion. the fancy features make this "a truly sexy device," says Kevin Burden, director of mobile devices at ABI Research.

Business Class

As appealing as it may be to hipsters, the iPhone 3G was designed with business users in mind (BusinessWeek, 6/11/08) as well. Software developers are all too happy to design applications for business.

Salesforce.com (CRM) was part of Apple’s initial software development kit launch in March. the iPhone and its applications will have "huge ramifications for how people conduct business," says Chuck Dietrich, vice-president of Salesforce Mobile. "the ability to run sophisticated applications on a handheld will change how people conduct life and business." Salesforce will have a version of its customer relationship management software available for the new iPhone, though it hasn’t said when or at what price.

Several smaller developers have created a number of native iPhone applications for business. Michael Taylor, CEO of Hey Mac Software, developed an application called Briefcase, which allows iPhone users to grab documents from their home and office computers through the iPhone. As long as remote login is enabled on the computer, an iPhone user can read and transfer documents from one computer to another with Briefcase software on the iPhone.

Smartphone Competition

Apple is also pursuing the health-care industry. Modality created Netter’s Anatomy, an anatomy flash card application. more are on the way, says Modality founder and CEO S. mark Williams, who also presented on stage at the developers conference. "We are working on several applications," he says. "We are pretty confident we will have 12 in the next few weeks." those applications will include a Frommer’s travel guide application for the iPhone.

Even with the robust development activity around the iPhone, Apple faces plenty of competition in the smartphone business. on June 24, Nokia (NOK) purchased the Symbian mobile operating system, which runs 56.3% of the world’s smartphones. Nokia will give away Symbian, and open the code, hoping developers will make applications for Symbian. Google’s (GOOG) Android operating system will be filled with its own bevy of smartphone applications.

For now, Cain and his software developer peers are content to bask in their rock star status.

PRODUCTS: Plantronics Savor M1100 Bluetooth headset

Communications headset vendor, Plantronics, has released its smallest and most stylish Bluetooth headset offering yet with the Savor M1100.

The first thing you will notice with the Savor M1100 is the effort put into making it comfortable.

The V-frame is lightweight, weighs around nine grams in total, and keeps a subtle profile against your jaw when worn, and there are three different sizes of silicon ear gel tips for a personalised and secure fit.

The other area the headset excels in is sound clarity, which is aided by three inbuilt microphones that have been optimally placed to protect from wind noise.

AudioIQ and DSP technology also helps to reduce background noise, and echo cancellation also improves the overall quality of the call.

Testing of the headset resulted in just under four hours talk time and seven hours stand by, and iPhone users will find the onscreen battery meter very useful in tracking the battery life.

For people who use more than one mobile phone, the Savor M1100 has multipoint technology that allows it to be paired with two or more devices.

The launch of the Savor M1100 in Australia also marks the rollout of Plantronics’ Vocalyst service in the region.

The Cloud-based voice service has been designed by Plantronics to enhance the user’s Bluetooth experience with extended voice capabilities.

The Vocalyst service is accessible from the headset, and all the user needs to do is say a voice command and the Vocalyst service will do what you ask.

In addition to recording and listen to reminders, and updating social networks such as Facebook and Twitter with the service, the other useful aspect of Vocalyst is the ability to listen to the news, finance, sports and weather directly from the headset.

Savor M1100 sells for $129 and comes with one year free Vocalyst voice and text service, and is available now through Telstra and other stockists.

For more information about the Savor M1100, go to: plantronics.com/au/product/savor-m1100

Fun fact: the words spoken by US astronaut, Neil Armstrong, as he stepped on the moon, “That’s one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind”, were uttered through a Plantronics headset.

Apple patent cleverly hides an antenna in your keyboard

Apple is keen on eliminating antenna woes in its products, even ones you may not even realize had antennas in the first place. A new patent win for the Cupertino giant illustrates a method for integrating a cellular antenna into MacBook and iMac keyboards, specifically by placing antennas under some keyboard keys.

According to Patently Apple, this is Apple’s fourth cellular-based MacBook-related patent over the past year and the second to deal with disguising the cellular antenna itself. Could we be seeing a 3G or 4G-capable MacBook in the future?

The design and positioning of an antenna in a device is an important issue Apple is fully aware of. Last summer, it was discovered that the iPhone 4’s reception significantly dropped when a user would touch one of its antenna bands. and in the past, MacBook Pro owners have had difficulties getting Bluetooth accessories, like the Magic Mouse, to play nice due to the Bluetooth antenna positioning in the notebook. recently, a 2007 MacBook Pro prototype with a Mag-safe-style rabbit-ear 3G antenna was racking up big bucks on eBay before the auction was pulled.

In the patent, the antenna is hidden underneath a few keyboard keys in order to improve its reception and transmission efficiencies. when the key isn’t pressed by a user, the antenna’s resonating element would be about as far from the conductive metal housing as possible. Thus, ideally, the antenna would be positioned under a key that’s not used very often, like a print screen key (which the patent singles out despite the fact that Apple keyboards typically don’t even have a print screen key). according to the diagrams, individual antennas would be placed under multiple keys and the device would use real-time information to decide which antenna is the best one to use, for instance if one has a stronger signal than the others.

The patent doesn’t specify exactly what kind of antenna would be placed on the keyboard. It could be WiFi or Bluetooth, or it could even be used for cellular communication or for data services (3G or 4G reception). What type of wireless signal the antenna would receive or transmit would just depend on the configuration of the antenna.

So it could be that in iMac keyboards, the antennas would improve reception with Bluetooth peripherals, while maybe in the MacBook keyboard, it would be used for WiFi or cellular services. Then you wouldn’t even need to use your iPhone as a hotspot when you’re on the road.

Google and Motorola?  AT&T and T-Mobile?  the death of webOS?  the market is changing rapidly, and RIM’s ability to compete has been taken into question several times over the course of the year.  once known as a top smartphone maker, RIM has seen their marketshare gradually decline over the years – to the point that RIM is regularly discussed as a takeover target.despite the negative press, the Canadian company is coming out swinging with three new BlackBerry models, one of which is the BlackBerry Bold 9930.  Featuring a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon processor, 2.8-inch touchscreen display, 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording capabilities, and BlackBerry 7, the 9930 is available at Sprint and Verizon.  It’s a nice device and a huge improvement from BlackBerrys of the past, but will it alter RIM’s existing perception and draw in new users?

Design & Features

If there were a contest on looks alone, the Bold 9930 would score right behind the Apple iPhone 4.  Coming in at 4.53-inches tall by 2.6-inches wide by 0.41-inch thick (that’s a scant 10.5mm), it’s a stunning device, with a nice metal chassis and black accents.  It weighs 4.59 ounces, making it easy to slip into the pocket and much lighter than some of the Android behemoths on the market.

The Bold 9930 comes with an AC adapter, USB cable (which doubles as the charging cord), holster, earbuds (Sprint version only), and instruction manuals.  on the left side of the device, you’ll find a 3.5mm headphone jack and microUSB charging port, while the right side houses the volume rocker, mute button, and convenience key.  the top contains the lock button.

Usability & Performance

Throw out your old thoughts about BlackBerry devices; while the overall OS design is unchanged (more on that later), the 9930 is a whole new experience thanks to a fast 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a much-improved web browser.  after years of being behind, the gap between “BlackBerry” and “everyone else” has been bridged to a manageable level.  for the most part, the performance was great, though I experienced some frustrating lag during tests.About a week into testing, the Bold 9930 began to stutter on a regular basis.  Apps would stop working, the touchscreen would freeze when trying to open things, and the phone would freeze when transitioning from one program to another.  they typically lasted between five and seven seconds, and increased in frequency as the review went on.  during a business trip in new York City on Tuesday, I counted 28 instances where it was affected by lag.

The Bold 9930 ships with BlackBerry 7, the newest version of RIM’s mobile operating system.  It’s more of an evolutionary change from BlackBerry 6 (so much so that it was originally going to be called BlackBerry 6.1), and while there are improvements, it still looks dated in comparison to the other platforms on the market.  the combination of a touchscreen and trackpad works surprisingly well for navigation.  I found myself rotating between the two pretty regularly.  they compliment each other pretty well.

The keyboard.  Oh my, the keyboard.  It’s six percent larger than my previous favorite BlackBerry, the Bold 9000, and somehow, they managed to improve it.  the keyboard is a dream.  I’ve typed out hundreds of emails and text messages, and even managed to pound out a 900+ word document while traveling.  It blows any other physical keyboard out of the water.RIM says the web browser in BlackBerry 7 is a 40 percent improvement from BlackBerry 6 and a 100 percent improvement from BlackBerry OS 5.0.  I’ll be the first to tell you – it’s a night-and-day difference from any BlackBerry you’ve ever used before.  There’s no lag, pinch-to-zoom is fast, and it’s easy to open multiple tabs.  the only limitation is the size and orientation of the screen, as a 2.8-inch landscape touchscreen isn’t the best to do extensive browsing on.the 5-megapixel camera is terrible, mostly due to a lack of autofocus.  Pictures taken in well-lit areas with enough distance looked fine, but taking close pictures of text is an absolute nightmare.  Editing options include scene modes (auto, face detection, portrait, sports, landscape, party, close-up, snow, beach, night, and text), the ability to set the image size, and the ability to geotag.  As poor as the still camera was, the 720p HD video camera was pretty impressive.  the video quality was quite good, though audio was choppy at times.the wireless radio has been decent, but it’s not nearly as strong as some of the other devices in Verizon’s lineup.  on the Verizon and Sprint versions, I’ve noticed that they regularly fluctuate between 3G and 1X, even when sitting in the same place.  In call quality tests, callers said I sounded loud, though they reported an extraordinary level of background noise in each one of my test calls (in one instance, I had to reconnect due to how bad it was).  BlackBerrys are business devices – as such, you would expect a cornerstone feature like call quality to be decent.

With a thin device comes a thin battery, and unfortunately, it doesn’t make it through the day.  Moderate use like calling, text messaging, browsing the web, downloading apps, and using BlackBerry Messenger drained the 1,230 mAh battery in roughly nine hours.  If you’re a light user, you’ll scrape by, but everyone else should purchase a spare battery or car charger.  Fortunately, the device charges relatively quickly, so you’ll be able to get those quick charges in between events.

Conclusion

The BlackBerry Bold 9930 is the best ‘Berry yet.  the 1.2 GHz processor, touchscreen/candybar combo, premium construction, and improved browser finally brings the brand up wto where it can effectively compete with Android and iOS.  Even better, there’s two other Torch models (9810 and 9850) with similar specs that will appeal to those that prefer different form factors.  I’m not sure how they keep doing it, but the keyboard on the 9930 is the best one yet; it runs circles around the Bold 9000, the former champion. That said, the Bold 9930 isn’t a game-changer.  It doesn’t offer any revolutionary features that will make users from competing platforms switch, and despite minor design improvements, BlackBerry’s OS still seems like something out of 1998.  I’m also shocked that they shrunk the battery so drastically.  If you’re a die-hard BlackBerry fan, want an awesome keyboard, or love to use BlackBerry Messenger, this is your phone.  for everyone else, when you consider the cost – $199.99 and up – there are better alternatives on the market.

Wrap-Up

What’s Good: fast processor; web browsing is significantly improved; keyboard is fantastic. What’s Bad: Small display; battery life is poor; aging operating system still pales in comparison to Android, iOS, and Windows Phone. The Verdict: the BlackBerry Bold 9930 is the best BlackBerry yet, but the high price point and clunky operating system won’t win over new customers.
