Apple iPhone 5 Arriving in October: Rumored Specs Roundup

Like us on Facebook

Foxconn Electronics is reportedly producing up to 150,000 handsets of the next -generation iPhone per day in a surprising move as supply chain sources indicate that iPhone 5 shipments are expected to reach up to 6 million by the end of the month and will reach 22 million units by the end of the year.

Meanwhile, analysts at Jefferies are expecting the iPhone 5 to launch in October on all four major U.S. carriers, and expecting Broadcom to keep the Bluetooth/WiFi socket in that device.

The analysts also believe that Avago Technologies will have several power amps and potentially FBAR filters in the iPhone 5 and, therefore expect it to benefit as a relatively new iPhone supplier in the fourth quarter of 2011 and 2012.

There has been huge expectation for the features of the iPhone 5, which will boast significant hardware and software upgrades.

Take a look at the most-rumored iPhone 5 features:

iOS 5: Apple’s newest mobile operating system version iOS 5 was announced at the WWDC 2011 keynote address on June 6. the new OS comes with 200 new features that will include Improved Notifications System, News Stand and iMessage. it will also feature new applications, such as the Reminders app and Newsstand, an application resembling Folders and iBooks.

iCloud: iPhone 5 is expected to feature the new iCloud service in operating iTunes for wireless remote access of music from all computers and mobile devices. the iCloud will also store photos, apps, calendars and documents without storing them onto the phone’s memory storage.

Design: Apple products are known for their beautiful design. iPhone 5 is expected to adopt a teardrop design that is supposed to be slimmer and lighter than past iPhone models.

The new smartphone will come with an aluminum plate casing rather than the current glass backing. Rumors suggest a more uniformed design across all of Apple’s mobile devices as aluminum may be the consistent material used in the upcoming iPad 3 and iPod lineups as well.

Hardware: Several of Apple’s rivals, mainly LG, Motorola and Samsung have already released dual-core processor phones. According to a recent media report from 9to5Mac, Apple gave its developers a dual-core iPhone 4 to allow them to prep for the iPhone 5.

It is expected that iPhone 5 will integrate a faster 1.2 to 1.5 GHz dual core A5 processor chip, which powers the iPad 2, with probably a 1GB RAM. With upgraded hardware, the iPhone 5 will be equipped with speed in processing information and apps besides obtaining lighter hardware parts to decrease the device’s weight.

In addition to a new processor, new elements such as a SIM-less design or an embedded SIM could help in reducing the iPhone 5’s physical thickness. Among other chipsets, a Broadcom BCM4330 could be integrated for its WiFi and Bluetooth.

Flash Camera: in the tech world, a 5-megapixel camera seems passé — as sad as that might sound to some — it’s true. like the dual core processor, several of iPhone’s competitors in the Android world have phones with 8-megapixel camera.

Hence the rumor mills effortlessly churn out one proof after the other for the next iPhone featuring an 8MP camera. at this point an 8MP camera on the iPhone 5 looks like a foregone conclusion.

According to a CNET report, iPhone 5 will have an improved flash unit for its camera. Citing industry sources, the report says Apple has reduced orders for iPhone 4’s current LED flash.

Apart from the rear-facing camera, Apple’s smartphone is also expected to have a front-facing one for video chatting. it is expected to include a dual LED flash with rumors that the flash unit will be separated from the camera sensor.

It is also reported that new panoramic imaging features will allow instant panoramic shots with Apple’s stock photo app and have the ability to record 1080p high definition videos.

NFC Payment: There have been reports since early this year that Apple is testing an iPhone that incorporates near Field Communication technology. Users can simply pay for goods by waving their iPhone in front of a contactless payment scanner.

Mobile-payment services using NFC will be a hot segment in the future. the technology could offer features that allow multiple mobile devices to sync for speedier information exchange and gaming.

It was also said that Apple had disclosed in some of the meetings that it won’t feature NFC on the next iPhone. the Independent said that Apple will sacrifice NFC in its next iPhone due to lack of industry standards about the technology.

Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi cited that Apple will not adopt the NFC-based mobile payment feature in the upcoming iPhone 5 until Apple is convinced that the technology’s chicken-and-egg-problem is solved, as the NFC requires widespread consumer adoption and critical mass with merchants.

But analysts at Jefferies expect Apple to come out with another iPhone, which will likely be named as iPhone 5S, in 2012 that will have NFC payment feature.

4G: There have been a lot of rumors regarding the possibility of the iPhone 5 being available on 4G networks for AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. the consensus from analysts and tech experts seems to be that the iPhone 5 will not have 4G support.

Peter Misek, analyst at Jefferies & co. had stated that Apple will not release a 4G LTE in iPhone 5 this year as Qualcomm’s LTE chipset, which Apple would have used, were not reaching the yields that Apple expects for its iPhone 5.

Instead, Misek recently stated that as the new iPhone in October will most likely be called the iPhone 5, he believes the LTE iPhone will likely be named the iPhone 5S and launched in Summer 2012 (though it could come earlier).

More Carriers: With new chipsets that the iPhone 5 may integrate, the ability for the smatphone to work across more carriers is becoming a higher probability. Misek expects the iPhone 5 to be available on all four major U.S. carriers — Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile — in October.

According to Piper Jaffray, via CNET, the “most noteworthy” change to Apple’s next-generation iPhone is that it’ll be offered by Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile, on top of existing carriers AT&T and Verizon.

Memory: Apple iPhone 4 comes in 16GB and 32GB. But it is expected that iPhone 5 will have 16/32/64 GB internal storage.

World Phone with SIM-less Design: making it a worldphone, the iPhone 5 is rumored to feature a new SIM-less design with two to three internal antennas for CDMA and GSM compatibility.

Model: It is expected that iPhone 5 will be coming in Black as well as White model.

Wireless Charging: A revolutionary way of charging mobile devices may see iPhone 5 gain mass appeal. the inductive wireless charging technology for the iPhone could juice up its battery without the use of cables and plugs. by utilizing a charging dock, the iPhone can charge its battery as well as share, sync, or backup data at the same time.

Meet OLogic’s Android controlled robotic music player – Mobile Magazine

The most recent robot controlled by a smartphone is the Automated Music Personality (AMP) robot launched by OLogic. AMP is a two-wheeled, self-balancing robotic music player that can only be operated by an Android smartphone. OLogic has plans of shipping the robot for around $400 or less. Techy savvy people see the price as incredibly low for a self-balancing robot like the AMP.

The manufacturing company of the AMP robot is currently self-funded, and it is searching for funding to be able to establish efficient distribution channels to release AMP into the market. AMP has a powerful audio system placed in its chest, a cup holder, a cradle in the back for the music player, and several command buttons for controlling functions like volume. If you use your Android phone or the remote control, you will be able to manipulate the robot. you can make it dance or stream music through Bluetooth.

OLogic is expecting to add more features such as the ability to place an iPad in exchange of the AMP head to make the telepresence robot more affordable and accessible.

But AMP is certainly not the first robot to be controlled by a smartphone.

Last August, the Eager Co. Ltd. of Japan announced its plans of selling the Telenoid R1 telepresence robot in October. This weird product of Japan’s technology is a toddler-sized, ghastly-looking robot that is intended to become a physical stand-in for a remote user while having internet communication. the Telenoid R1 mirrors a person’s movements through real-time face tracking software on the computer installed in it. the voice of the robot comes out from the device as well. Freaky.

After Telenoid R1 came Elfoid P1, which was unveiled during a press conference held in Japan last September. This one is a shrunken mobile version of the creepy bot. Elfoid is a mobile phone and mini telepresence robot rolled into one. the two robots were designed by Hiroshi Ishiguro, a robotics expert at the Osaka University in collaboration with the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR).

A more normal-looking robot introduced to the public was LG’s Hom-Bot (RoboKing as called in the US). Hom-Bot has Smart ThinQ technology that enables the robot to interact with an Android or iPhone application. you can watch a live video feed from the built-in camera. It’s technically a vacuum cleaner, and this pricey little cleaning device costs around $710-995 US or €500-700. That’s pretty ridiculous for folks who just want a vacuum cleaner for their house, and even tech geeks would find it tough to justify spending almost a thousand bucks on it.

6 Rental Sites that Let You Enjoy High-End Goods for Less

If you’ve got champagne tastes but a beer budget, you can now rent high-end accessories, clothing and electronics rather than buy them at full price. these six companies will outfit you in style—without emptying your bank account.

If you want the convenience of having a car but would prefer not to own one outright, check out Zipcar. It’s a flexible way to easily borrow a car when you need it and at a reasonable cost. Zipcar has a few plans, including its “occasional driving plan.” it costs $60 annually, and then you can borrow a car for $8.75 an hour during the week or $13.75 an hour on weekends. Gas, insurance and 180 free miles are included. You can even use your cell to find a Zipcar near you. (Get Zipcar coupons.)

Still undecided on whether to make the switch to an iPhone? Try one out for a few weeks using InTouch USA. It’s a nice way to give an iPhone a short-term trial without switching plans, buying a phone or going through any hassle whatsoever. It’s not cheap—you shell out $89 for a 10-day test, but it’s certainly way less pricey than breaking your contract only to decide that it’s not the phone for you.

On the members-only website Rent the Runway, customers can borrow elegant frocks from Proenza Schouler, Temperley London, Nina Ricci and others for up to 90 percent less than their retail cost. we spotted a Tracy Reese silver cable shift that retails for $848 but rents for $125, a playful Trina Turk coral bow-front sheath that sells for $258 but rents for $40 and a trendy Thakoon black bodice taffeta number that can be yours, briefly, for $100 instead of the $890 it would cost to buy it. Never again will you have to wear the same outfit twice. You keep the dress for four days and then return it. the company takes care of the dry cleaning and even minor damages, like if you dribble a bit of caviar or Dom Pérignon down the front. not sure what outfit to choose? Rent the Runway even has stylists available for you to call before you place your order. (Get Rent the Runway coupons.)

Handbags, jewelry and even sunglasses are all yours for the (temporary) taking at Bag, Borrow or Steal, which was featured in Sex and the City 2. You decide the length of time you want to rent—the longer the time frame, the lower the weekly price. For example, a Chloe Paddington Handbag is $77 for a one-week rental but $574 for three months, which works out to around $48 per week. if you’re the type who has to have the latest, trendiest accessories at your fingertips, this is the site for you. (Save even more money on your next rental with these Bag, Borrow or Steal coupons.)

San Francisco–based Plum would like you to think of it as “Netflix for baby clothes.” First, pick your plan (seven baby outfits a month for $49, four ensembles for $29 or two for $16) and then tell the company where you and your wee one live so they can factor in weather. the service will send you a mix of clothes from upscale brands, such as Petit Bateau and Tea Collection, each month to use and return every 30 days (free shipping included both ways). if something isn’t in perfect condition, you won’t be penalized, and anything that is in good—but not absolutely perfect—condition will be donated to foster parents.

At the “peer to peer” rental site Zilok, you can rent just about anything from other members of your community. From low-end items (power tools, jogging strollers, sewing machines and more) to high-end—for instance, you can borrow a sailboat for an overnight stay in beautiful Monterey, California—it’s no wonder Zilok has been called the “eBay for rentals.”

Apart from the 3.7-inch touch screen with 480 x 800-resolution and a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, it also has an action burst scene that automatically takes five consecutive shots of a scene.

Most of the smartphones for ladies in the market feature a lesser specification or smaller design. but Rhyme stands out with quite beefy specs and accessories.

The retail package of the smartphone contains a docking station, sports armband, Bluetooth headset and Charm cable which lights up for incoming calls and messages. Rhyme will be priced $199 on-contract along with docking station, the headset included, according to Verizon.

Here is a comparison between HTC Rhyme and Apple Inc.’s iPhone 4.

Size: HTC Rhyme has 119 x 60.8 x 10.9 mm (4.68 x 2.39 x 0.43 inches) dimension and weighs 130 grams (4.58 oz) compared to iPhone 4’s 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm (4.5 x 2.31 x 0.37 inches) dimension and weighs 137 grams (4.8 oz).

Display: Rhyme features 3.7-inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen display (800 x 480 pixel resolution) whereas the best selling Apple iPhone 4 has 3.5-inch multi-touch Retina display (960 x 640 pixel resolution).

Operating System: HTC Rhyme is equally staged with Droid Bionic and Galaxy S2 as it features Android OS v2.3.4 (Gingerbread). On the other hand, iPhone 4 features iOS 4.

Processor: The processor found in Rhyme is 1GHz Scorpion Adreno 205 GPU Qualcomm MSM8255 chipset which is the same processor found in HTC Thunderbolt. On the other hand, iPhone 4 has 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, PowerVR SGX535GPU, Apple A4 chipset.

Camera: both the smartphones have 5-megapixel camera which supports autofocus, LED flash and geo-tagging features and a secondary VGA camera for video chat. And there is 720p video capture option similar to iPhone 4.

Input features: both the smartphones have multi-touch input method, accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate, compass, proximity sensor for auto turn-off and touch-sensitive controls. In addition, iPhone 4 has Gyroscope sensor.

Memory: Rhyme contains 4GB storage and 768 MB RAM which is not bad when compared to the iPhone 4’s 512 MB RAM and 16/32 GB storage. Rhyme has an external microSD storage up to 32 GB, while iPhone 4 doesn’t have one.

3G: The Rhyme has HSDPA 14.4 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps. On the other hand, iPhone 4 has HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA 5.76 Mbps.

WLAN/Bluetooth/USB: both the smartphone has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot and comes with microUSB version 2.0. The Rhyme has Bluetooth version 3.0 with A2DP and EDR whereas iPhone has Bluetooth version 2.1 with A2DP support.

Pricing: HTC Rhyme, with three accessories — a docking station, tangle-free headphone and the indicator Rhyme Charm — will cost $199. On the other hand, iPhone 4 is sold at $199 for a 16GB version and $299 for a 32GB version. Separately people could buy iPhone 4 Dock for $29.

Battery: there is a Li-Ion 1600 mAh for a long-lasting use for Rhyme, while iPhone 4 has Li-Po 1420 mAh standard battery.

For a mid-range smartphone HTC Rhyme looks powerful and the smartphone also sports HTC Sense UI 3.5, 3.5mm jack, loudspeaker, HTC Watch streaming video support, SMS threaded view, MMS, Email, Push Email, IM, HTML browser, stereo FM radio with RDS, A-GPS support, light-up Charm Indicator accessory, SNS integration, digital compass, dedicated search key, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Picasa integration, MP3/AAC+/WAV player, MP4/H.263/H.264 player, organizer, document viewer, voice-memo-dial support and predictive text input feature.

iPhone 3GS 4.2 jailbreak – Learn To Do This Successfully

Do you think that an iPhone 3GS 4.2 jailbreak is not worth it? you are not alone. Many people are also thinking that jailbreaking the iPhone 3GS is not necessary. after all, the 4.2 firmware was laden with new features never before seen in any Apple device. Still, a lot of iPhone owners have already joined the jailbreak bandwagon. and it’s quite easy to know the reason why.

Before you decide whether to get on with your jailbreak attempt or not, let’s first look at the pioneering features of the 4.2 firmware for iPhone 3GS.

  • Customizable tones for messages (SMS/MMS). before, you can only assign a custom ringtone for calls. with the 4.2 firmware enhancement, you can even set the tone for text messages. Now you’ll know who sent you a text message even when not looking on the phone.
  • Slider adjustments for volume. It’s quite fascinating how a powerful phone can have limited control buttons. It’s because the iPhone’s Home button is somewhat a jack of all trades. Now you can even adjust the volume of your iPhone 3GS by simply swiping it from let to right a second time (which activates the volume control feature). This is pretty useful if you can’t press the volume buttons of your iPhone for some reason.
  • Easy search in web pages (Safari). with the influx of different web browsers on the iPhone 3GS, here’s a good reason to stick to Safari: you can now search a specific text on a web page. Simply type the word or sets of word on the Safari’s search box and a toolbar will pop out at the bottom of the display to help you browse all the search hits.
  • AirPlay for multimedia. You’ve seen this kind of feature before through the old AirTunes used by Apple a couple of years back. what the iOS 4.2 did was to improve this old version so that iPhone users can better enjoy their media files. Now you can stream music, photos and videos directly to compatible devices without ever needing to connect to iTunes or attach docks and cables.
  • Wireless printing. AirPrint enables users of iPhone 3GS to instantly print their documents via a compatible printer with no cables attached. This also eliminated the use of the iTunes’ Document Sharing features (thus not requiring you to sync to iTunes if you simply want to print a document).

An Easy-to-Follow Jailbreaking Process

1. go to the jailbreak software website, create an account and download the latest version of the software. if it is a zip file, you will need to extract it. if not, simply double-click on the software icon to launch it.

2. Connect your iPhone 3GS to the computer. the moment your PC detects it, turn it off. some settings prompt iTunes to start automatically when the iPhone connects. if this happens, just close iTunes before proceeding

3. there are two stages of the jailbreaking process. the first one will prepare your iPhone 3GS for jailbreaking. Begin the first stage by clicking on the “Start Process” option on the screen. Just follow the on-screen instructions to put your device into DFU mode.

4. if successful, you can proceed to the second stage of the jailbreaking process. Click on “Jailbreak” button. when it’s complete, you will have to click on the “Quit” button to close the application. Your iPhone will reboot after a few minutes. Tap on the loader button and install Cydia.

5. once Cydia is installed, uninstall the Loader app.

To Jailbreak or not to Jailbreak the iPhone 3GS

With a jailbreak software, you can install third-party apps that are not available in the App Store and even customize the graphic display of your mobile device. What’s more is that all the current features of your iPhone 3GS 4.2 will not be affected. It’s because it only aims to unlock all the features of the operating system. those who are afraid of the risks should know that most of the potential damages can be prevented by using a tried and tested jailbreaking software.

Why don’t you take a look at this software? Visit: iPhone 3GS 4.2 Jailbreak Software

Your iPhone 3GS can still have customizable tones, volume slider via the home button, wireless document printing and multimedia access without connecting to iTunes.

Apple cuts French App Store’s ‘Jew Or Not Jew’ App

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Apple inc. has removed a mobile app, called “Jew or not Jew?”, from its online App Store in France.

The app let users consult a database of celebrities and public figures to determine if they are Jewish or not. Its removal follows a complaint from a French anti-racism group that threatened to sue the iPhone and iPad maker.

The app, “Juif ou pas Juif?” in French, was selling for 0.79 euro cents ($1.08) in France until it was cut on Wednesday. SOS Racisme had argued that the app violated France’s strict laws banning the compiling of people’s personal details without their consent.

Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr said the app did violate local law, so it was removed from the French App Store. It is still available outside France, however, and currently sells for $1.99 through Apple’s U.S. App Store.

Under the French penal code, stocking personal details including race, sexuality, political leanings or religious affiliation is punishable by five-year prison sentences and fines of up to euro300,000 ($411,870).

Such laws were enacted in the decades following the Holocaust, which saw some 76,000 Jews deported from Nazi-occupied France to concentration camps. Fewer than 3,000 returned alive.

In a statement, SOS Racisme had called on Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple to remove the app from its online store and be more vigilant about the applications it sells.

In an interview, published Wednesday in Le Parisien newspaper, app developer Johann Levy said he developed the app to be “recreational.”

“I’m not a spokesman for all Jews, but as a Jew myself I know that in our community we often ask whether a such-and-such celebrity is Jewish or not,” Levy, a 35-year-old Franco-British engineer of Jewish origin, is quoted as saying.

“For me, there’s nothing pejorative about saying that someone is Jewish or not,” he said. “On the contrary, it’s about being proud.”

He said he compiled information about famous people around the world from various online sources.

Developers that offer apps through Apple’s App Store are responsible for making sure their apps are in line with local laws.

Apple has removed numerous apps from the App Store since it launched in mid-2008 for violating myriad restrictions it imposes on developers. in June, it shunned an app called “ThirdIntifada” following complaints that it glorified violence against Israel. Apple said it violated developer guidelines by being offensive to large groups of people.

  • Make Your Own Awesomely Terrible (Or Just Plain Awesome) Music Videos With VidRhythm

VidRhythm isn’t a game per se; it’s an app that allows users to quickly assemble custom-made music videos. But given that it’s made by Harmonix, the creators of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, we’re gonna go ahead and call it a game just so we can write about it. One of my favorite things about the Rock Band games was how it allowed musicians and non-musicians alike to share music in a new way. there was nothing quite like sitting down with my non-musician friends and sharing music in a new way. VidRhythm offers an evolution of that same inclusive spirit, and opens musical performance up to an ever greater audience.

One of the great strengths of portable devices like the iPhone and iPad is their portability and accessibility, and the ways they bring people together—it’s all well and good to play Cannabalt or Gravity Hook by yourself on the bus, but sitting down with a friend for a match of Ascension or a versus-mode Plants vs. Zombies is a whole other kind of fun. and while that big Rock Band drum kit eventually became too much of a hassle to cart out, an iPhone is always within reach, and so too is VidRhythm.

upon opening the app, users are prompted to choose a song from a list of 20 templates—mostly original compositions by the staff at Harmonix, no doubt due to licensing issues. there are also a couple of classics—Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag,” Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Flight of the Bumblebee”—all of which offer welcome familiarity. All the options are goofy fun, from “D-O-G-S” and “Say my Saxy Name” to “Miami,” a sultry jam that certainly made me remember my time in steamy south Florida. (…well, sort of.)

After choosing a song, users are then prompted to choose from a list of ten video templates; these govern how the resulting music video will look, and run the gamut from “70’s Disco Party” to “Hellish Cat-Nightmare.”

Then it’s time to perform. Depending on the song, you’ll be prompted to record video of yourself performing a combination of instrument sounds, notes, and sound effects. once you’ve created six samples, it’s simply a matter of pressing play and the app quantizes and auto-tunes your performance, spitting it out according to the song template.

So here’s the fun part – inevitably, the songs that VidRhythm assembles are bizarre and totally hilarious. it gets even better when a group of people gets involved; for a case in point, see the Hamilton family rendition of Steve Pardo’s “D-O-G-S” up above.

Of course, no one says you have to record the sound effects with your voice; real instruments can be used as well, and the truly creative can repurpose whole templates to their own musical ends. (The truly subversive can re-do “D-O-G-S” as “C-A-T-S”). In the second video off to the side, the folks at Harmonix used real instruments to create a charming acoustic take on Beethoven’s Fifth.

The audio plug-ins that VidRhythm uses to bend and twist your out-of-tune singing into recognizable melodies can go overboard from time to time, but that winds up being part of the fun. There’s nothing quite like carefully recording a vocal take only to hear playback that sounds like a kazoo orchestra accompanied by a sack of flaming chipmunks.

Re-editing samples and sharing finished videos couldn’t be easier, and the general experience of using the app is wonderfully seamless. In fact, VidRhythm’s biggest triumph is how quickly it gets out of the way of its users’ creativity.

Harmonix assures us that in the Rock Band Network tradition, the app will be supporting user-generated content in the future, which will allow fans to make new song templates of their own. No doubt the available song library will expand far beyond those initial 20 songs.

Even without those plans for future expansion, VidRhythm remains a goofy good time, and a great excuse to break out your iPad or iPhone at parties. It’s absolutely worth its $1.99 asking price, and is one of the more refreshingly bizarre, apps I’ve had the pleasure of using.

VidRhythm is now available on the iTunes store for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch w/ camera, and the iPad 2.
