iPhone App Development Highlights ?EUR" What?EUR(TM)s New in iPhone 4S?

iPhone is known to be one of the strongest mediums that can aid you in almost every sphere of life. Users increasingly turn to iPhone to create and consume content, whether on-the-go or on-the-couch.

The iPhone is so well built that it can handle extremely complex applications with ease. Now that iPhone app development has been opened to non-Apple developers, the door is open for anyone to create and market something from a simple game to a complex multi-level application to the millions of iPhone users worldwide. For those reliable and hard workers, iPhone app development has empowered more individuals to provide real-time output through enterprise applications.

Apple has now recently unveiled the iPhone 4S, which features a modest upgrade over the earlier version of iPhone i.e. iPhone 4. the iPhone 4S features a faster dual-core A5 processor with 1 gigabyte of RAM, and the ability to handle much more complex and sophisticated gaming, involving a seven-fold increase in graphics speed.

Apple says the phone has around 8 hours of talk time over 3G. One can browse over 6 hours using 3G, 9 hours of browsing over Wi-Fi, 10 hours of video, and 40 hours of music. the device also has an 8 MP camera and a new system that is known to be comparable to a point-and-shoot camera.

Covering a variety of games, GPS navigation, reference, social networking, security and advertising and many more, iPhone app development has become an integral part of iPhone use. Till date more than around 500,000 iPhone applications have been approvingly developed by Apple App Store. this has encouraged iPhone application development companies to develop more and more unique iPhone applications. this aptly shows the domination of the iPhone on the immensely popular Smartphone market that the number of applications available today has exceeded 65,000.

The scope of iPhone app development is showing only a rising graph and this is expected to continue in near future as well. Prior to the launch, analysts said the iPhone 5 will “shatter” the sales record held by the iPhone 4 launch last year. Now it is said that shipments for next year could reach as high as 107 million units. the iPhone sales are expected to grow by 40% in the next 5 years. so the prevalence of iPhones would also get increased all across the globe and there would be a larger scope for iPhone app development. Let us keep our fingers crossed and see what the future holds for this innovative and exciting field of app development.

Samsung Nexus Prime Teased in Video After iPhone 4S

There’s nothing like the launch of a major, potentially big-selling product to get the competitive juices flowing.

Just hours after Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled its iPhone 4S, Samsung Mobile released a brief video teasing its forthcoming Android-based Nexus Prime smartphone, which the company is expected to unveil alongside Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) at CTIA Oct. 11.

In the 29-second clip, available on YouTube here, Samsung compares things that go better together, such as cookies and milk and newspapers and coffee before noting that "something big is coming" at Samsung’s Unpacked event next week in San Diego.

The "something big" reference is an allusion to the screen size of the Nexus Prime, which reportedly offers a 4.65-inch, Super AMOLED plus display with a 1,280-by-720 resolution.

Indeed, Samsung at the end of the video showed a dark side view of the alleged Nexus Prime, which is clearly contoured like the Samsung Nexus S before it and appears to have a larger display.

The Nexus Prime almost certainly will launch exclusively on Verizon Wireless (NYSE:VZW) with Android 4.0 "Ice Cream Sandwich," the next-generation build that leverages holographic user interface functionality from the Android 3.0 "Honeycomb" branch for tablets.

For an idea of how that will look, check out this video made by someone who scored a Samsung Nexus S running ICS on eBay. Note the multitasking and notifications functionality.

GSM Arena offered several other details, including that is has a metal body and packs a 2,000-mAh battery inside a super-thin, 8.8-millimeter-thick frame. moreover, the handset will run a 1.5GHz, dual-core Samsung Exynos processor and offer 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. an 8MP camera with HD video recording in 1080p is also on tap.

Samsung Galaxy S II handsets have sold over 10 million units worldwide since April without the benefit of major U.S. sales.

Yet clearly Samsung feels it needs to do something big to blunt the hype from the iPhone 4S, which offers users a speedy A5 processor, an 8MP camera, iCloud and iOS 5, as well as the Siri intelligent assistant application on both GSM and CDMA networks.

While the handset still boasts the 3.5-inch screen Apple fans have become accustomed to, Samsung and Google will clearly tout the larger screen size of the Nexus Prime, the speedier processor, along with the fresh ICS build, as advantages over the iPhone 4S.

Meanwhile, Samsung sued to block the iPhone 4S launch in France and Italy, claiming the device infringes on the company’s 3G wireless technology patents.

Will iPhone 4 owners upgrade to 4S?

The new Apple iPhone 4S, in black and white.

(Credit:Apple)

Lost in all the hype–and some would say disappointment–over the announcement of Apple’s new iPhone 4S is one question: at whom is the new device aimed?

To be sure, it offers a nice set of features that make it a significant step up from theiPhone 4: Siri voice controls, an 8-megapixel camera, a faster dual-core A5 CPU processor, an 8-megapixel camera, and HSPA+ support. It’s also a dual-mode world phone, and the new 4S has a new antenna that may improve call quality.

To be sure, with the 4S, Apple is going afteriPhone 3G and 3GS owners, as well as those who have never bought one of its smartphones. But one question worth asking is, are those features enough to convince iPhone 4 owners to upgrade?

To some, there are enough features to make upgrading, even for those still under contract with an iPhone 4, a good bet.

“It’s an evolutionary product but with a lot of revolutionary features,” said Michael Gartenberg, an analyst at Gartner. “I think we’re going to see a lot of people upgrading.”

One thing that’s clear, Gartenberg added, is that Apple is aiming to put an iPhone in just about anyone’s pocket who wants one. while theiPhone 4S will be priced at $399 for a 64GB model, and $299 and $199, respectively, for 32GB and 16GB models, Apple will also be selling an 8GB iPhone 4 for $99 and giving away an iPhone 3GS. Obviously, each of these phones requires a new 2-year contract.

That’s an idea with which David McQueen, principal analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media, agrees. “By keeping both the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 models in market at significantly reduced prices, free and $99, respectively, on contract,” McQueen wrote in an e-mail blast Tuesday afternoon, “perhaps [Apple] has created opportunities in the mass market without actually having to resort to a lower-cost new product. In the U.S., Apple has also extended its reach by making the phones available on Sprint for the first time.”

But Gartenberg said he thinks that the new iPhone has enough features to convince even iPhone 4 owners still under contract to upgrade. “Absolutely,” he said, “the same way we saw people upgrade from [the iPhone] 3G to 3GS…They want the specs. Not everyone is going to do it on day 1, but quite a few people will.”

And while it’s impossible to tell yet how many iPhones Apple will sell in the wake of the 4S announcement, some think that buyers will flock to the new device.

“A Taiwan analyst group said Tuesday that the new Apple iPhone 4S may generate a significant boost in sales for Apple,” PC Magazine’s Mark Hachman wrote in an article titled “Apple iPhone sales could climb 20 percent after iPhone 4S launch. “TrendForce–a Taiwan-based component tracking firm…said that it expects 2012 shipments of the iPhone will top 100 million units, and possibly up to 110 million.”

DisappointmentStill, on Twitter, there is a heavy flow of people posting their disappointment with Apple’s announcement. The sentiment, for many, comes from a feeling that the new phone doesn’t have enough new features to warrant the excitement and hype that preceded Tuesday’s event.

Echoing that feeling in his e-mail, McQueen noted that “the iPhone 4S looks the same, with similar industrial design, screen size, and user interface [as the iPhone 4], but just with a little better innards. Having a faster dual-core processor helping improve battery life, 1080p HD video recording, an 8 [megapixel] camera, and the ability to roam between CDMA and GSM networks may float some people’s boat, but that may not be enough to seduce all Apple lovers to upgrade.”

A bigger problem for Apple, McQueen suggested, is that the iPhone 4S may not move the yardsticks forward enough to hold off competitors like those releasing new Android and Windows phones. “Whilst Apple announced improvements in the hardware performance and on the service layer, it has been let down somewhat by having almost no change in the user experience and in the industrial design,” McQueen wrote. “Unfortunately for Apple, this is happening at a time when competitors are aggressively bringing new products to market with superior user experience in the form of wider and better screen, intuitive UIs, and more integrated apps. As a result, iPhone 4S could be the first disappointing device since the launch of the brand.”

Barkings!: Wireless Sync with iTunes

A few days ago, a friend asked if I’ve played around with iOS 5 and what my favorite feature is. since I have a 3rd-generation iPod touch, some of the new features don’t apply to me, but one of the cooler ones so far is the ability to sync with iTunes without plugging into my laptop. my friend said he’d heard of that but thought he couldn’t set it up because he was still running Leopard. the good news is, unlike iCloud support, wireless syncing doesn’t require Lion. as long as your computer will run iTunes 10.5 and you have a device that supports iOS 5, then you have what you need.

To wirelessly sync your device with iTunes, first connect your device to your system using the USB sync cable. Start iTunes if it doesn’t run automatically, then click Check for Updates to make sure you’re using the latest version. now, click the Summary tab and click on Check for Updates to make sure your device is running the latest version of iOS. Update it if necessary. (As of this writing, there are a lot of people updating, so don’t panic if the download takes a while.)

Once everything is up to date, look at the bottom of the device’s Summary page for “Sync over Wi-Fi connection.” Check this option, then go through your library and select what you’ll be syncing. After the initial sync, you can eject your device by clicking the little Eject symbol next to the device’s name.

On your device, select Settings and then General. Tap on iTunes Sync. Tap the button marked Sync now and your device will connect to your computer and synchronize your library. your device will also sync automatically any time you connect it to a wall charger. (This assumes that you are on the same network as your iTunes library.) Wireless syncing will take a little bit longer than from the USB sync cable, but the convenience is worth the wait.

This has been a huge help to me. I recently moved into a new place, and my office is full of boxes. Climbing around the pile to connect my iPod to my computer is a pain, but now that I can sync wirelessly, I don’t even have to be in the same room. I hit Sync now, grab breakfast, then charge my iPod during the drive to work.

The fine print: iTunes 10.5 requires Mac OS X 10.5 or higher, or Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher. iOS 5 is supported on the iPod touch 3rd and 4th generation, iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S.

Sprint’s iPhone Hail Mary

Consumers have the advantage in telco iPhone price war

Consumers are at an advantage with purchasing the latest iPhone 4S from telcos due to lower price plans on offer, according to comparison website, WhistleOut.

Since Telstra, Optus and Vodafone recently announced price plans for the new iPhone 4S device, presenting 200 plan combinations on the market with seven iPhone models to choose from – starting with Optus, which offers the iPhone 3GS at $0 on $29 Cap plans.

Both Optus and Vodafone reduced a few dollars per month in handset repayments on most iPhone 4S combination plans compared to that of the iPhone 4, while Telstra has priced the new model far more aggressively, WhistleOut claimed.

According to WhistleOut director, Cameron Craig, when comparing the price points, the new iPhone 4S presents a better deal than pricing on the original iPhone 4 16GB and 32GB models.

“Overall, it is a great picture for consumers: when the original iPhone 4 prices do drop, there will be respectable price points for every category of consumer. The exception is the new 64GB variant which is the diamond of the iPhone range where the only $0 phone repayment options are $100 per month plans,” Craig said.

The iPhone 4S looks almost identical to the iPhone 4, but features significant internal changes –including a faster processor, a more advanced camera and a new antenna design. “If the past year is anything to go by, it will be the smaller Virgin Mobile which will be most competitive on pricing as Virgin Mobile have had the most competitive prices on both the iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S 2 for the past 12 months,” Craig added.

I waited awhile and then ordered this car charger for my phone for in a literal sense pennies. I realize that it’s not made from the same higher quality materials as the “official” charger. however, equated to former car chargers I have owned, I’ve found it works just as well. of course, since the item does only cost pennies, the buyer will have to beware because the probabilities of getting a device that doesn’t work as the right way is higher than if you buy the “official” car charger. still, for a few pennies, you can’t go too wrong.

Five Siri Alternatives That Give Your Older iPhone a Voice

After last week’s iPhone 4S unveiling, Siri was one of the most talked-about features. with Siri, the iPhone 4S will be able to answer just about anything you ask it, from the weather report to nearby points of interest. it can also read messages and notifications aloud and even let you dictate messages of your own instead of relying on the phone’s on-screen keyboard.

Similar Articles:

There’s only one drawback to Siri: Unless you’re planning on upgrading to the iPhone 4S, the feature is out of your reach. And Siri Assistant-the app on which Siri is based (and which Apple acquired last year)-has already disappeared from the App Store; the app will stop working on October 15, so even existing Siri Assistant users face a potentially silent future.

Not to worry, though, iPhone 4 and 3GS owners-you needn’t miss out on the voice-control fun. The App Store continues to offer many apps that provide a lot of the same features iPhone 4S owners will get with Siri-and those third-party apps are available for free in many cases. Here are a few worth checking out.

Dragon Go

Nuance’s Dragon Go app underwent an update last month to deliver a much improved voice service to users. The free app works on all iPhones and third- or fourth-generation iPod touches (if you use an external microphone). It’s simple to use-just say what it is you’re looking for, and Dragon go will search hundreds of content providers to deliver the best answers to match the query. For instance, for those wanting to listen to songs by a certain artist, Dragon go will find that artist on Pandora, Last.fm and Spotify (for premium users of that music service). it can also help call a taxi, look up good restaurants nearby, and stream movies.

Google Search

Voice recognition plays a prominent role in Google’s mobile search tool. instead of typing in a Google search query, Google Search allows voice commands to conduct a search. The app also exploits your phone’s proximity sensor; just raise the phone to an ear and talk to run a search. In addition to straightforward searches, the app also uses location to help find movie times, local restaurants, and more.

Vlingo

Vlingo is a great multitasker. by using voice commands, users can dictate an email, text message, tweet or Facebook status, make a call, locate a place, or search the web. when spoken to, the app sends the voice command to Vlingo’s servers, returning the answer in text form. to use Vlingo, simply say one of four commands before the request: find, search, social update or call. The free app provides basic search functionality; for $10, you can add email and text message dictation.

Voice Camera Pro

Unlike the apps above, Voice Camera Pro is designed to help specifically with one native iPhone app: the built-in camera. instead of tapping around the normal camera app, Voice Camera Pro uses fairly obvious voice commands to launch the app’s camera, take a picture, view your photo library, and share photos. it also adds a few fun extras, such as snapping up to four photos consecutively. In loud conditions, you may need to use an external microphone (such as the headphone, mic, and remote pair your iPhone ships with) to clearly convey your command, but it’s worth a try for $2.

Voice Control

Don’t forget-your iPhone 4 or 3GS already comes with some voice-recognition functionality (as does the third- and fourth-generation iPod touch). The native Voice Control feature should really be given a little more credit-it’s not only good for calling people hands-free, but can also FaceTime contacts (on the iPhone 4) and control your music. Voice Control can additionally list artist names, shuffle playlists, skip tracks, or play music similar to the current song playing. For many users, Voice Control-accessed most easily by holding down the Home button on your device-is quite suitable for their needs.

Liam Gallagher: Accessories had to happen

Thursday Oct 13 2011

Liam Gallagher insists adding accessories to his fashion label was a “natural progression.”

The British musician-turned-designer launched his menswear clothing line Pretty Green in 2009 which was inspired by the Mod style of the Sixties era.

He has since launched an accompanying line of accessories, which the star says was an inevitable process.

“It’s a natural progression for any clothing label to have accessories,” he explained to vogue.co.uk. “I do a lot of travelling, these pieces are essential to my every day needs when away from home.”

The accessories collection features a range of items, including holdalls, passport holders, wallets and iPhone cases.

They came in a mix of print including vintage paisley and brown checks. Liam is proud of the line and has revealed his best-loved item.

“My favourite piece is the weekend holdall,” he said.

Liam has previously spoken about the type of people he hopes his Pretty Green line will attract. The former Oasis frontman insisted his signature shabby style is worn in a deliberately trendy way.

“Not a lot of people look cool these days, like my cool,” he explained. “Everybody plays it down, don’t they?

“I don’t want just anybody wearing it. and people go, ‘Oh, beggars can’t be choosers.’ well, I ain’t a beggar, you know what I mean?”

SoL iPhone Charger Solar Powers Apple Mobile

The SoL Hybrid Power Pack for the iPhone is yet another item created to provide a serious solar charge for smartphones that is cleaner and sustainable. Solar panels on the back power the built-in battery in both outdoor and indoor light, which means that even if you’re not in the sun, your phone can still charge.

The built-in, extra-large battery holds triple the energy of a conventional phone battery, keeping an iPhone powered for what is said to be a decent amount of time (up to 16 hours of talk time). A priority charging system charges the phone first and the case second. during use, however, the case’s power is used first, and the phone’s is used last, making sure the phone stays operational as long as possible.

Image via SoL Marketplace

Besides being used for charging, the case can be kept on the phone full-time as a protective measure. It also includes an LED flashlight and comes with three screen-protectors, including a reflective one that can double as a mirror.

The SoL Hybrid Power Pack fits the iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S and iPod Touch 2G and 3G and prices around $90.
