OLATHE, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–eGovernment firm NIC (NASDAQ: EGOV) continued its track record of building unique services for new technology devices by launching the nation’s first government applications that were developed specifically for the iPad.
“These are cool solutions for a very cool device”
The citizen-friendly interactive driver license practice tests are designed to help new drivers test their knowledge of the rules of the road and be better prepared for written tests in Kentucky, Nebraska, Tennessee, Utah, and West Virginia. All five iPad apps are now available for free through the iTunes Store.
“These are cool solutions for a very cool device,” said Harry Herington, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NIC. “Tech-savvy teens and young adults are an important emerging market for eGovernment services. Our driver license practice test apps for the iPad are delivering our partners’ government services to citizens via the hottest new device. This is the type of innovation taxpayers should expect from government.”
NIC’s technology and marketing experts worked quickly to develop a unique suite of services that would be available when iPad apps were launched at the iTunes Store. “As soon as the iPad was unveiled, NIC started building these apps because we recognized how popular this device was going to be,” continued Herington. “We’re also proud to help five of our state partners lead the industry by offering the first government apps designed specifically for the iPad, and we look forward to introducing many more iPad and iPhone apps for our government partners in the future.”
NIC’s iPad apps were included in the iTunes Store’s initial suite of iPad-specific apps and were downloaded more than 150 times before the iPad even went on sale last Saturday morning. In total, the interactive driver license practice test iPad apps have been downloaded more than 300 times.
The iPad suite is the latest step forward in NIC’s aggressive expansion into mobile service delivery. NIC was the first company to release a government app for the iPhone, and the company’s popular Most Wanted iPhone app has been downloaded more than 760,000 times. NIC has now designed 16 free apps for eight states that are available at the iTunes Store. To download NIC’s iPad and iPhone apps, visit the iTunes store and enter “NICUSA” in the upper right hand corner search box.
