At today’s Cupertino, California based Apple update conference, rumors were abound as to what new devices and software features Apple would unveil. Particular interest, of course, surrounded what new version of the iPhone would appear. Leaks were rampant as well, as Apple’s Japan Store let loose a paragraph on its website related to the iPhone 4S.
I know I am not the only one whose Apple balloon lost a little air at hearing that. At least, until I heard what the 4S was all about.
Today, Marketing Senior VP Phil Schiller took the stage and confirmed the iPhone 4S rumors, providing details about the new iteration of the world’s most popular mobile device, listed below for our readers, so they can either grate their teeth or take heart.
Retina Display, Blazing Graphics
The iPhone 4S will have a super-sharp retina display, with 7x faster graphics displayed on it due to Apple’s new dual core A5 chip. Game-based processing times, according to Schiller, will now be twice as fast.
Battery Life Up the Wazoo
Battery life has also been dramatically improved, according to Schiller, who stated that our teenagers will be able to talk to their friends for a whopping 8 long hours. As to the quality of these epic phone calls, the 4S will “intelligently switch between two antennas” to ensure sending and receiving call-based information is optimized.
Enhanced Downloading Speeds
Downloading your apps and other information will take half as long as it used to, according to Schiller, with an improved, whopping iPhone 4S 14.4 Mbps download speed, up quite a bit from the current average # Mbps rates.
8 MP Camera!!!
Tired of the 5MP limits of the iPhone 4 camera? Hey, I’ve got the 2nd generation and things really suck for me. But take heart! The 4S will have a slick and highly useful 8 megapixel upgrade built in, with images showing up at 3,264 x 2,448 pixels, a 60% increase from the iPhone 4. You’ll be able to see every pore in your Aunt Marianne’s face at the next family picnic as well, with a superfast shutter speed, an illuminated sensor providing 73% more light than the 4S’s predecessor, automatic face detection and built-in white balancing.
From what I can see, they’ve allowed photo taking using the sound toggle button on the side of the phone, so you can keep your fingers away from the screen.
