AT&T and Apple both experienced technical difficulties on their websites on Tuesday June 15, 2010, when swarms of customers wanting to preorder the iPhone 4 came to their site. iPhone 4 preorders were ten times higher than the iPhone 3GS orders from last summer. Neither company expected such a rush and it is claimed that 600,000 orders were taken on Tuesday. In Apple stores, employees even had to take down orders and requests for appointments with pen and paper.
The Tuesday orders broke the record with the highest number of preorders that Apple has ever seen. This caused several system meltdowns and both companies have released statements acknowledging this and apologizing to customers. Measures are now being taken to make sure they are better prepared in the future.
The world is going to change because of the iPhone. I am really convinced that this will damage the way people interact with each other. Everything is going to be done over the phone and people will become socially awkward in person! Just walking down the street you see people with their heads down in their phones. Just yesterday I saw a woman almost get hit by a car because she was looking at her phone and not paying attention to the crosswalk signs.
iPhone 4 is going to be the death of us.
