When Apple launched its iPhone 4 model just over a year ago, it quickly climbed to the top of the smartphone list in terms of overall sales. In doing so, it dropped the former number one seed, the iPhone 3GS, to the number two spot.
A new NPD Group review shows that in the second quarter of this year, we have the iPhone 4 still in the top spot and the iPhone 3GS in the second spot. With the number of options available for smartphones, this says quite a bit about the reputation of the iPhone seeing that a one year old model remains in second spot.
Compared to the newer iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS has a slower processor and also has less features. There has been some discussion that Apple is preparing to phase out this model, especially considering that the iPhone 5 is due out in the next month or so. as it stands now, we have seen some great deals on the iPhone 3GS. recently, AT&T had reduced the price of this device to $49 which was provisional on a two year contract. We’ve also seen $9 refurbished models, but one of the best deals just became available yesterday when best buy was giving them away for free with a two year contract.
