The Times is offering its updated iPhone app as a free preview for a limited time.
The updated app offers a much more interactive experience than its predecessors, allowing you to customise the order in which stories are presented and save articles for viewing offline.
“The app brings the Times and the Sunday Times to the iPhone for the first time, showcasing the depth of Times journalism, with the latest stories on your screen almost as fast as they are written and a design that allows you to navigate easily between stories; customise your app to find your favourite sections first; save articles to read later or when you are offline and send feedback directly to our team – 7 days a week, anytime and anywhere you want,” the app’s iTunes description reads.
It’ll be free for an unspecified time, after which it will be exclusive to subscribers of thetimes.co.uk, which costs £2 per week.
Times Newspapers Limited also said that “The app will also be available directly for purchase through the App Store,” but didn’t specify whether the cost implied in the statement would be an up-front charge or a subscription fee.
Users of the app largely seem to be happy with the update. “Well done Times, eventually! This is so much better than the previous clunky iPhone app, shame it wasn’t around on Day 1,” one reviewer wrote on iTunes.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, the Times app requires iOS 3.1 or later. There is a version of the app specifically for the iPad, which offers a free 30-day preview, then costs £9.99 per month, or is free to subscribers to thetimes.co.uk.
