Of all the iPhone applications out there, which ones are the best? My highest rated applications include…
5. Bible The YouVersion Bible Application contains over 80 translations of the Bible (many of which can be downloaded for viewing offline free of charge or listened to via the audio funcion). Foreign language translations are also available. This application also has a search function to pinpoint a subject, verse, or book being looked for. It also shares over 100 reading plans to serve as guides in the reading of the Word. Last but not least, this application allows for the updating of Facebook and Twitter statuses to one’s favorite verse. This is a free application.
4. RedLaser
RedLaser scans the barcodes of items you wish to purchase or review. After scanning the barcode of an item placed in front of the iPhone’s camera, the name and a picture of the item is displayed. “All” and “Local” stores are shown where the item can be purchased (price is shown as well). A tab for reviews of the item is also created. This application rarely fails to identify an item. This is a free application.
3. Shazam
If you are ever at a bar or in the car and hear a song on the radio that you absolutely love and yet cannot figure out the name of the song, Shazam is your application. Shazam will “listen” to the song playing and give you feedback that includes song title, artist, and album title. It also is formatted so that a song can be purchased through iTunes or its music video be watched on YouTube after being “tagged” by Shazam. As is the trend with many apps, Shazam also connects to Facebook to share your favorite music tags with friends. The only downside to Shazam is that they free application only identifies 5 songs per month. The regular application costs $5.99.
2. Words With Friends
Words With Friends is in contention for best application but falls short because it is purely an entertainment application. This application is very similar to Scrabble and can be played with friends using iPhones or iPod Touches. A key feature to Words With Friends is that you can connect your facebook account to it as another way to challenge friends to a match. The free version of this application contains ads while the $1.99 is ad free.
1. Dragon Dictation
Dragon Dictation is the best and most useful application out there. Speak into the microphone, and it will record spoken words into text format that can be easily sent as a text message or emailed. One can even update a Facebook or Twitter status. I used this application to write my economics final – it worked beautifully even with the long content. This is a free application.
