The Apple computers’ iPhone is a device which created a lot of hype prior to its launch. all those who claimed to be Gadget geeks became a nerd with the iPhone enthusiasm. the launch was not a grand affair, as it was offered only to a small number of countries, and a very high price tag for entry into the market with limited capabilities. These kept many prospective buyers wait to get a first hand feel of the product. the first iPhone failed to make an impression in the market and had many disappointed users. but with iPhone 3G, Apple aims to get a hold in the market as it provides functions like 3rd party application support, and application store. this makes the iPhone a computing arena. What’s stunning about the iPhone 3G is its compatibility to 3G networks at a price of $200. Let’s take a look at the features in detail.
The hardware is very similar to the original iPhone. the iPhone looks very similar to the iPod touch, the only difference being that you can make and receive calls on an iPhone. the display is brighter with a resolution of 480*320 and 3.5 inches. As compared with the original iPhone, the aluminum chic matte at the back has been replaced with plastic. this was expected, as the iPhone has to receive so many signals (GSM, WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth etc). the battery life claimed by Apple is 10 hours on GSM talk, 5 Hours on 3G talk, 5 hours on Data transfer, 6 hours of WiFi usage, 24 Hours music and 7 Hours on video. if you are wondering that you will use your iPhone to read emails and listen to songs at the same time while commuting from home to work and then using the phone in the day time, it is likely that you’ll have no power left in the phone on the way back home.
It is delightful to use the iPhone mainly because of the software. the touch screen with an optimized mobile processor enhances the whole feeling of using a mobile phone as a computer. the most recent addition to the iPhone is App Store. the developers at Apple keep coming out with new programs which users can download and use it on their iPhone. There are several free and paid programs available, and to download them you will need to use your iTunes account. Apple also sends notifications as and when updates are available. the iPhone can read PowerPoint and other documents, but you cannot edit them.
We love the Apple iPhone for its new burner: 3G compatibility, GPS and did we mention downloadable applications through iTunes account, upgraded and user friendly OS, etc. but what still lacks in the iPhone are features like cut, copy paste, voice dialing. These need to be incorporated. the camera still needs improvisation. you have to browse many features to switch from 3G to GSM when the coverage is poor. to summarize the review here are a few pointers
• High speed 3G networks
• third party applications
• Expanded email
• Improved call quality
• Excellent music and video experience
• Basic features are still missing
• Uneven battery life
• Syncing of email gets faulty many a time
• Voice dialing feature is missing
• Choosing between GSM and 3G coverage is not easy.
