You can call it whatever you want, a rumor, facts or a report but this is for me is a clear indication that Apple is doing something that we’ve already seen.
If you can remember when Apple launched iPhone 4, they created a low-cost version of the iPhone 3GS by creating a 8 GB model of the said iPhone. It looks like Apple is wants to repeat that strategy by creating a 8GB model of iPhone 4 that will surely be sold at a much lower price while the iPhone 5 will sell at a higher price with or without a contract.
In a report by Reuters, Apple had contacted a Korean company to manufacture the 8GB flash drive that will be use for the discounted iPhone 4. Apple’s current supplier for the 16 GB and 32 GB flash drive are Samsung and Toshiba. Legal spat between Apple and Samsung may have prompted Apple to look for another supplier.
The original iPhone 4 was launched last June 2010, while White version come in just last April 2011. Just like what Apple did with the low-cost iPhone 3GS, Apple is targeting people who are looking for their first smartphone but doesn’t to spend a fortune to get one, so you can expect the new 8 GB iPhone 4 to price anywhere between $150 to $200, but Yuanta Securities analyst Bonnie Chang, thinks that the low-cost 8 GB iPhone 4 will also have a different innards.
"But I think for an 8GB iPhone 4 the price is hard to go below $200, so Apple will still need a completely new phone with low specifications for the emerging markets."
Together with the new iPhone 5, the low-cost 8GB iPhone 4 are expected to be available at the later part of September which confirms another report that the upcoming Apple event on September 7, will be the official day Apple will announcement the new iPhones. Speaking of new Iphone, the new iPhone 5 or iPhone 4s (Seriously I would think that the low cost 8GB iPhone 4 will be the iPhone 4s) is reported to have a bigger touch screen, better antenna and an 8-megapixel camera but same form factor.
