time they check in somewhere too. Again, this is really of no interest to others users and smacks of desperate attention seeking.
• Tweeting when drunk
While it might be good that tweets can always subsequently be deleted, there is something a little desperate and embarrassing about the man who think it is a good idea to tweet when he has had a few beers (let alone the fact that he can’t think of anything better to do with his time). They’re often indecipherable, generally incoherent and pretty much pointless and they’re the digital equivalent of getting a telephone call at 2 in the morning, when you were fast asleep, from a drunken friend saying that he loves you. Not cool!
• Sending out countless #FF recommendations
The #FF tweet comes from a trend first started back in 2009, where Twitter users would recommend details of other followers every Friday. FF is short for Follow Friday and is basically a list of user names being recommended to others to follow. It seems like a nice idea but, like anything else, is woefully overused. Aside from the fact that people seem to do it every day, the same people seem to send out lengthy #FF tweets all the time and it becomes tiresome pretty quickly.
Twitter seems so easy to use at first, but once you establish yourself as a regular in the world of tweeting, you will quickly learn what engages and what alienates. Remember that the best ideas are the ones that are used sparingly so if you find yourself doing the same things all the time, you are probably alienating your followers.
